On Tuesday August 21st and Wednesday August 22nd there will be a youth festival in Seaton. More help is needed to organise this so on  Wednesday 16 May at 7p.m in the Town Hall there will be a chance for young people to express their interest in helping with the festival or in joining the Youth Council – and for adults to offer help. Plans include a music concert, indoor inflatable laser game, arts and crafts, Punch and Judy, rounders, canoeing, crabbing and a disco on Wednesday evening.

Please note date in Midweek Herald was wrong – this is the right date.

A Senior Youth Worker employed by DCC will start work in Seaton at the end of May. Part of his responsibilities will be coordinating the detached and mobile unit team in Seaton. The detached  workers meet tonight for planning and will be operational next week – in adavance of the new worker  taking up post.

Unfortunately the Midweek Herald comments about  finalising plans for the renovation of a permanent centre are not accurate.

Still its good news for Seaton.

A  group of people in Seaton got together recently to talk about youth provision in the Town. Our Youth Centre closed recently – because the land it is on is the subject of a planning application.  We’d like to try and get some form of youth club going for teenagers since as this site shows if you aren’t sporty there is not a lot for those over 14. What could we try to provide – maybe

  • Table tennis
  • Pool or snooker
  • Twister
  • Quiz night
  • DJing competitions
  • Arts and crafts, such as clay modelling or ceramics painting
  • Stand-up comedy night
  • Cookery skills
  • Music Workshops
  • Computer games
  • Self esteem class
  • Fashion show
  • Beauty sessions
  • Water bomb fights (outdoors only!)

And if enough young people were interested outings, such as to Warmwell Ski Slope for snowboarding or Skiing, cinema trips or our own film shows, a barbeque, trips to Brean Sands or to Bicton College Open Day, shopping trips  or a day trip to DYS events like Kongomana http://www.bbc.co.uk/devon/content/articles/2005/07/29/blast_2005_kongomana.shtml.

(Overnight trips wouldn’t be possible unless we could pull in people with the right training).

Also adult volunter support, if needed, for other events organised by young people, like gigs in the Town Hall.

This blog is not being publicised until it is more complete – but feel free to comment if you’ve found it anyway.

We are just setting this up. Add any helpful suggestions or activities we haven’t listed yet.
